Online24, Maros, – Ruslan (26), a resident of Bonto Marannu Village, Lau District, Maros Regency, was arrested by Maros Police personnel.
Ruslan is the mastermind behind the theft in one of the housing estates in Maros Regency, South Sulawesi. He did not act alone, but was assisted by his accomplice, Ershandy (29), who was also arrested.
Maros Deputy Police Chief, Commissioner Alamsyah, explained that the theft occurred on June 17, 2024 at Griya Batas Kota Housing Estate.
“At that time, there was a theft at Griya Batas Kota, where the victim left the house during the Idul Adha celebration in Pangkep. Upon arriving home, the victim saw that the door of his house had been broken into,” said Alamsyah in a press conference at the Maros Police Hall, on Tuesday (16/7/2024).
Meanwhile, Maros Police Criminal Investigation Unit Chief, Iptu Aditya Pandu explained that the modus operandi of the perpetrators was by climbing onto the roof of the house.
“The main perpetrator entered the house by breaking through the roof, while his friend, Ershandy, stood guard outside. After entering, the perpetrator immediately ransacked the house,” said Pandu.
From the results of their crime, the perpetrators managed to escape with a laptop and gold jewelry. Some of the stolen items were sold to buy narcotics.
“The victim lost a laptop and 20 grams of gold. The gold was sold for 2 million rupiah and will be used to buy narcotics,” explained Alamsyah.
Due to the actions of the two perpetrators, the victim suffered losses amounting to tens of millions of rupiah.
“If we calculate the total loss incurred by the victim is around 46 million rupiah,” he added briefly.
For their actions, the two perpetrators were charged under Article 363 of the Criminal Code with a maximum sentence of 7 years in prison.
